Raw Feeding Guidelines for Dogs

Raw Feeding Guidelines for Dogs

Feeding Amounts

The amount of food your dog needs depends on its life stage, activity level, and weight, as a general rule:

Puppies: Feed 6-8% of their current body weight daily, divided into 3-4 meals until they are 6 months old. Reduce to 2 meals per day after 6 months.
Adult Dogs: Feed 2-3% of their ideal adult body weight daily, split into 1-2 meals.
Senior Dogs: Maintain 2-3% of their ideal body weight, adjusting for activity level and health needs.

Use this table to estimate how much raw food to feed your dog daily based on its weight and life stage. Remember, these are general guidelines, and you should adjust portions based on your dog’s activity level, metabolism, and body condition.

Please note, puppies need a higher percentage of their body weight in raw food per day:

From 10-16 weeks approximately 8%
From 16-20 weeks approximately 7%
From 20-24 weeks approximately 6%
From 24-36 weeks approximately 5%
From 36-52 weeks approximately 4%

Transitioning

We recommend doing a straight swap onto raw, never mix raw and kibble together in one feed
Softer, runnier stools are normal over the first 4-6 days of raw feeding as your dog needs to adjust its gut bacteria to the new diet.
We advise to start with bland meats that aren’t too rich, such as chicken or turkey for the first 7 days and introduce new proteins gradually one by one.

Life Stage Advice

Puppies: Feed smaller, frequent meals; introduce proteins gradually.
Adults: Rotate proteins to ensure varied nutrition.
Seniors: Focus on easy-to-chew options and consider supplements for joints.

Feeding Tips

Fresh Water: Always provide fresh, clean water for your dog.
Hygiene First: Handle raw food like perishable meat—wash hands and surfaces.
Bone Safety: Feed raw bones only; never cooked bones.
